THE MAN WHO CHANGED SHANGHAI

Three siblings — Martin (87) from Monaco, Theo (85) from Canada, and Alessa (82) from the US — reminisce about their childhood and youth in Shanghai, sharing the fascinating life story of their father, the renowned architect Ladislav Hudec. Alessa visits her father's birthplace, Slovakia, for the first time in her life, and together with Theo, returns to Shanghai after 63 years. Alongside remarkable insights into the life and work of L.E. Hudec, known as the „father of Asian skyscrapers,“ the documentary offers valuable testimony and authentic memories of European life in colonial Shanghai before the founding of the People's Republic of China — enriched by the discovery of previously unpublished 16 mm films shot by Hudec himself between 1927 and 1938.
